Building Arrma Limitless – Getting Started – Part 1

Building Arrma Limitless – Getting Started – Part 1

This is an 8-part tutorial series on how to build the world’s fastest RC car – Arrma Limitless V2 from scratch. It aims to offer detailed guides that cater to complete beginners and above.

This comprehensive tutorial is meant to fortify the existing manual that comes inside the Limitless box by providing detailed instructions and visual representations of the steps involved in installing all the components required to build the RC car from the ground up.

List of Tutorials

Below is the list of all the tutorials in this series.

  1. Getting Started
  2. Installing Servo Motor
  3. Installing ESC
  4. Installing Receiver
  5. Installing Servo Horn
  6. Installing Motor
  7. Spray Painting the Body
  8. Applying Decals

The Things You Need to Start Building

Your Arrma Limitless comes as a “rolling chassis” or “roller”, the term used for an off-the-shelf RC vehicle that lacks the parts necessary to drive it. Thus, below is the list of all the components you need to purchase separately to complete your car with the specific parts we are using in this tutorial.

  1. Brushless motor – TP 4070-SVM 2240KV brushless motor
  2. Motor pinion gear – 37T steel pinion gear
  3. Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) – Mamba XLX 2 ESC
  4. Servo motor – EcoPower WP120S coreless waterproof servo motor with 25T shaft
  5. Lithium Polymer (LiPo) battery – 2 units of 4s LiPo batteries
  6. LiPo battery charger – HOTA P6 LiPo charger
  7. 2-Channel radio transmitter and receiver – 2.4GHz Radiomaster MT12 transmitter with ERC3-i receiver

Other non-RC tools that you may require.

  1. Soldering iron – to solder battery connector on ESC. Optional if your ESC already comes with connectors.
  2. Solder – the substance that melts on the wire when soldering
  3. Solder iron stand – to hold the hot soldering iron
  4. Vise grip or plier – to hold on to the connector when soldering

Inside the box, you should find the critical tools to build your Limitless such as hex (Allen) screwdrivers and a wheel wrench. However, we do recommend the following tools and parts to help build a better Limitless with a more pleasurable experience.

  • 25T metal servo horn – Limitless comes with a 23T servo horn which is a non-standard
  • Arrma Limitless screws set box – Comes with a variety of screws and shims that fit Limitless
  • Electric-powered drill – to ease the work of inserting screws and for drilling purposes
  • Hex screwdriver bits – 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm and 5mm bits that work with the electric drill
  • 3mm drill bit – to secure ESC on the chassis (if you decide not to use double-sided tape)
  • Double-sided tape or 3M Dual Lock – to secure the ESC and receiver onto the chassis
  • Blue or red-colored threadlocker – to lock some critical screws such as gear and motor mount
  • Wire connectors – to connect ESC, motor or battery, if they are not already included. Typically QS8 connectors.
  • Heat shrinks – If you need to do solder connectors to your ESC or motor. Typically 10mm ones.
  • Polycarbonate spray paint – to spray the body shell. Tamiya spray paints are commonly used.
  • Dish soap – to wash the body shell prior to spraying
  • Sponge – to wash body shell before spraying
  • Non-permanent marker or pen – to mark certain areas while applying decals
  • Wipe cloth – for cleaning purposes
  • General purpose tape or duct tape – for marking purposes
  • Long-nose plier – general purpose use when building
